The new year is always a good time to start something new, tackle a project, or do something fun. In our case we did all three. We took the Honu Studios tiki mascot, Kaimana, and gave him some life in this short featurette complete with an active volcano.
Being fans of the show LOST, we also decided to pay homage to the secrets of the island and the shows title sequence. We’d like to think that if Jacob was going to build a stone tiki statue rather than a large statue of the Egyptian goddess Taweret then this is what that statue would look like.

In many sci-fi movies characters interacting with computers use sophisticated interfaces which are over the top. But hey, it’s a movie. User interfaces in movies is a specific field of motion graphics that we find pretty intriguing. Mark Coleran has quite a portfolio of work in this area. While he is no longer making FUI’s and has moved on to developing software his work still impresses.
